Salvador Dalí (born May 11, 1904, Figueras, Spain – died January 23,
1989, Figueras), was a Catalan painter, sculptor and writer. He is considered as one of the greatest surrealist artists of the 20th century. He had a sulphurous and inimitable style, endowed with charisma and overflowing creativity. His works were provocative. The encounter between Dali and Daum took place in 1968 with the “La Fleur du mal”, the first piece of a long series with the Maison. The translucency of the “pâte de cristal” offered Dalí the suitable medium for the expression of metamorphoses, suggested to him by his “paranoid and critical” perception of reality. “Glass paste is truly a Dalinian material. Hence I have used it to create masterpieces; I am delighted with this new material, which has both the molecular elasticity of a snail and the consistency of the Perpignan train station”. Salvador Dalí
